5 random food facts!

I hope you guys aren't bored of me, Waffle girl yet! Recently, I came across some interesting food facts from Daily Random Facts! Well, you can be a DIY Food idiot, but never be an idiot of the food you put in your mouth!

I bet you never taught of these food facts before. If you have any other food facts, do share with us in the comment box below!

No ice cream left at home? Fret not, make some!

Hi fellow readers of Cooking for Idiots, its me Waffle girl! It’s Tuesday and we hope you are still hanging in there.

Lately, I’ve been thinking of having more fun with my waffles topping. Especially ice cream!

What could be better than enjoying ice cream in the palpable delirium of a heat wave? (Besides a cold bath and a thirst quenching drink) Anyhow, I digress.

You know those times when you really feel like having some ice cream and there’s none in the fridge? And you’re too lazy to go to the supermarket to get your favourite Ben & Jerry’s? Well, who says you need to buy any? You can make homemade ice cream with all the basic things you can probably find in the kitchen!

You will need:
2 x ziplock bags
½ cup of reduced fat/whole milk/cream
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Lots of ice cubes with salt

1) Dump it all in
Place the ice cubes with salt in a ziplock and the milk, sugar and vanilla extract in a separate one.

 2)  Shake it up
Shake the ziplock containing the milk to mix the ingredients before placing it into the ziplock with ice cubes.  Continue shaking it vigorously.

3) Serve!
Your ice cream should be ready if it’s creamy. Once done, you can scoop it and serve with your favourite toppings.  Coco pops, rainbow chocolate rice, anything! If you’re feeling for some chocolate ice cream, just substitute the vanilla extract with cocoa powder. Recipe serves 1.

Try the recipe and let us know how it goes!

Spicy French Fries

Hello fellow idiots!

How have your week been so far?I hope it's going well as Miss French Fries is back again for another idiot-proof recipe. This time, I want to share with you guys something spicy and crispy that you can munch on during your free time.

As I am someone who is in lurveeee with french fries, of course I will share with you guys my favourite snack and how to do it at home!

Firstly, the ingredients are:

1. Water
2. Potatoes (you can use any kinds of potatoes but russet potatoes is the best for cooking french fries!)
3. Paprika
4. Salt
5. Chilli flakes
6. Flour
7. Coriander leaves

Next, cut the potatoes and soak them in cold water so that the potatoes won't turn brown. You can cut the potatoes in whichever way you like it.

Heat the oil in the skillet to a medium high heat. While the oil is heating, sift the flour and spices into a bowl. You can add as much of the spices as you want according to your own taste.
Don't forget to add salt too for taste.
Finally, add in enough water so that the mixture is not too watery or too thick.

Dip the potatoes into the batter one at a time and fry it into the skillet. Fry until it turns golden brown and crispy. When it is ready, remove it and drain on paper towels.

And voila! The spicy french fries is ready!
If you guys have any suggestions on what recipes you would like to see, don't be shy and comment on the comment box and we idiots will take up your challenge. Have fun trying!

Bagus foodcourt:Fried Kway Teow Goreng

Over the past few months, Causeway Point has been undergoing renovations for the whole building. Most of the stores were either undergoing renovations or being replaced. Sadly, the ever oh-so-famous Banquet was also undergoing renovations. I was pretty bummed when I heard the news because Banquet was my favourite place to go and eat with my friends as they serve really good food. After the agonising few months, Banquet is finally back with a new name!

Bagus Foodcourt at Causeway Point
Located at the same level as before, Banquet still offers the same variety of food. As I am a huge fan of their fried kway teow, I had to try their fried kway teow to see whether they still taste the same like how I remember.

Fried Kway Teow Goreng ($4.30)
The Fried Kway Teow Goreng that I ordered tasted like heaven in my mouth. The kway teow was really soft and smooth as it allow itself to melt in my mouth. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the fishcakes were really good and the tauge was crunchy.

The amount of soy sauce being added was perfect so it was neither salty nor tasteless. This was how I remembered eating my fried kway teow goreng. The only disappointing factor in this was that I only get two cockles and the prawns were tiny.

Other than that, the Fried Kway Teow Goreng was really delicious, just like how I remembered it!
Do comment if you have any enquiries!

Happy Mookata

Tired of eating the same old steamboat with the same ingredients and style of cooking? Last night was my first time eating something of the same concept, yet not the usual ones you eat in Singapore. Mookata is a tradition Thai barbeque steamboat whereby instead of the soup being in the middle of the pot and the frying at the surrounding, it works the another way round.

I was recommended by a friend to this newly opened shop- Happy Mookata, which is located at Golden Mile Complex, where it is known a place that many Thailands visit. A buffet style mookata, there is a wide variety of food to choose from and it comes with a affordable and reasonable price of $19.90 nett per pax!

What I liked about it is that the ingredients are very fresh tasted and the marinated meat is a must try. It also comes with fried snack such as nuggets and fishcake that goes well with their special chilli sauce that will definitely suit the taste buds of Singaporeans.

Personally, I am someone who dread the smoke from steamboat but Happy Mookata is the first brass mookata in Singapore thus there is lesser smoke as compared to aluminium ones. Apart from all these, the service was good too and the ingredients was served fast, it is worth the try!

Living the spicy life

Spicy  foods doesn't stop the love for delicious foods for Jamie Loo

Introducing Jamie Loo, someone who thinks how delicious it is is the most the important part of eating even if it is too spicy.

Here's our exciting interview with her and how it went!

Idiots: We know that you love food, but how much do you love it?

Ans: Errr....to infinity and beyond? Ha ha. I love eating all the different kinds of foods and how delicious they all taste!

Idiots: What kinds of food do you like?

Ans: Spicyyyyy! Especially McSpicy! WITH CHEESE! Want to see a picture I have of it?! I have a collection of all the foods I love to eat.

Look at all the delicious things she eats!

Idiots: Okay..? So we can assume you can take the heat from spicy foods?

Ans: Yes...but one bite of any kind of spicy food is accompanied with three glasses of cold plain water. Ha ha!

Idiots: Hold up! So you can't handle spicy food but love to eat it?

Ans: Spicy foods give me a sense of satisfaction that your tummy is feeling explosive because you just had a good meal!

Idiots: Explosive?

Ans: Yes!!

Someone who handles a spicy meal with many glasses of cold water. It's quite apparent that Jamie can't handle spicy foods but eats it nonetheless! Her love and passion for tasty foods overcomes her inability to handle spiciness.

Hobbies

Although she lives to eat, Jamie also spends her spare time and energy from all those food she eats to play play with frisbee. Being the captain of Republic Polytechnic's frisbee team and a member of Zero displacement shows that she has her work cut out for her.

Ans: Ermmm....I try to do the best that I can with my school and hobbies. Regarding food...you always have time for it! Whether at home or at school!

Idiots: So you cook at home as well?

Ans: Well....I love to eat more than cooking. I have tried to cook my own food before and they turned out okay. Wanna see some pictures of it?

Idiots: So what's the best kind of food have you ever cooked by yourself?

Ans: My very own instant noodle! I added prawn, veggies, beef and a bit of pepper to create my own dish. I call it Jamie's Noodle!

Despite all of this, Jamie also finds the time to run her own blog with her friends. CheapieFoodie is a blog where they highlight delicious foods around sunny Singapore at affordable prices. The foods are never the same as they explore different parts of Singapore to find the best dishes.

www.cheapiefoody.blogspot.sg

Idiots: How do you feel about being part of CheapieFoodie?

Ans: It adds on to the already very adventurous life that I have and its a pleasure for me to be able to share it with other food fanatics.

Idiots: So do you have any thing to say to food lovers and us, the idiots?

Ans: Enjoy the food for what it taste like! Unhealthy or healthy, its whether you're happy after that meal that matters at the end of the day! OH! But don't forget to exercise too! :)

Idiots: Thank you for this interview and we hope you get to eat plenty of delicious food in the future!

That concludes our interview with Jamie Loo. Do look forward to meeting more individuals who share the same passion for food and how it revolves around in their lives on Cooking for idiots!
