Hungry and Itchy for cheap food

Hate queuing for food during lunch hours? Feel an urge to get your cook on in school? Bringing food from home getting too damn boring? You are not alone. We feel the same way.

As my tummy started grumbling in class, I wondered what I could eat for lunch. A little later, Miss French Fries arrived and complained about the endless queues down at the canteen. Waffle Girl overheard and cut in.

“Wouldn’t it be awesome if we prepared our own snacks in school?”

“Like what?” Marshmallow Boy asked.

We started discussing what snacks we could possibly put together in school and agreed on the following: 1) the ingredients should be cheap and easy to find, 2) the preparation time should take less than 5 minutes, and 3) the steps should be simple.

We were up to some mischief early in the morning and here is a video to proof it!

This is what we came up with:

Sausage Spooned Mash Potato

Mash potato alone is boring, why not dip your sausage in it? ;)
The saltiness of the sausage is balance by the mild flavor of the mash potato.
Your sausage will be more savory, and your mash potato will be more filling.

Marsh-scuit

Cream crackers and marshmallows, bet you didn’t think of that.

Step 1 - Stuff a marshmallow in between two crackers
Step 2 - Place it in a microwave oven for approximately 20secs
Step 3 - Remove and enjoy

The chewiness of the marshmallow complements the crackers. Not only is it sweet, but it’s both chewy and crispy.

Instant (egg + noodles)

Most of us find cup noodles dull and “jelak” (sick of eating the same food, in Malay) and often crave an additional ingredient with the instant noodles.

For only 75 cents, you can get a tea egg from 7-11 and add it into your cup noodles.

So these are a few snacks you can try when you feel an urge to cook in school or are simply lazy to queue. Your experiments may or may not turn out well but it’s always fun to try, especially with your friends!

If you have any suggestions or ideas for snacks, feel free to share them with us in the comment box below.

Have a good day fellow cooking idiots!

  3. Oh yes, instead of just waiting for the queue to grab good food, let’s just go to the shop buy instant food cook and mix it all up, I’m sure it’s more time saving and tastes WAY BETTER...........

  4. Thank you for your comment, we really appreciate you to take the time off to tell us how you feel. Coming to the instant food, people may be busy with work during lunch break and may not have time to wait for long queues. What we are offering is a better alternative in context that, the queues we wait for provisional shops are usually faster and not to mention we are giving suggestions of how to spice up ordinary instant food. Although it may not be the best, it is definitely better than a bland instant food taste. :)
